Letter to a County Sheriff in Michigan requesting they investigate the development of their officer's deformed fingers and
chronic back, neck, shoulder pain caused by the "High Effort Steering" systems on vehicles such as the:
Impala, Dodge
Charger, Crown Vic., Blazer, and others. This letter is symbolic of others we have sent to Law Enforcement Agencies
including the National Fraternal Order of Police in Atlanta, GA.

Re:  Musculoskeletal Health Warning to Tuscola County Sheriff Deputies

Dear Sheriff XXXXXX:

I left a message at your office yesterday relative to my website about children's deformed fingers from video gaming and adults
deformed fingers from driving today's vehicles with the 'High Effort Steering' (HES) systems and/or 'Initial Resistance Steering'
systems (IRS).

Example of the HES is the stiff steering such as the Chevrolet Impala. The Impala offers HES during the duration of the steering
turning or course correction. The IRS, such as the Ford Crown Vic. offers the resistance initially at the start of the steering wheel
movement, but quickly returns to an acceptable force (non-injury) level.

Regardless of whether it is an HES or an IRS steering system, neither vehicle is physically safe to drive by your deputies. Each
system results in permanent and accumulative musculoskeletal injuries to the driver. Drivers use the knees and hips as fulcrum
points and L-4, L-5 as flexing points to deliver the forces to turn the steering wheel. With the weight of the wheel, the designed
steering resistance, and the abrupt turning requirement time; the human body responds by suddenly throwing the weight of the
upper torso into generating and delivering the forces to overcome the steering resistance. This mechanical body force "generating
and delivery" is what is responsible for chronic back-neck-shoulder-wrist-hip-knee pain, carpal tunnel, shoulder replacement-back
surgeries, tingling fingers, degenerative disc, degenerative back, and bent and twisted rheumatoid arthritic fingers and joints.

I'm sure if you check with your deputies, and other law enforcement agencies, you'll find similar health problems as described
above. Yesterday, I spoke to a Bad Axe police officer (driving a Dodge Charger) and he like many other law enforcement officers
I've interviewed, suffer from musculoskeletal injuries.

What vehicles are safe for law enforcement patrol? None. They all result in physical injury. It just takes longer for some injuries to
appear. What corrective actions can be taken? The vehicle manufacturer must reduce the steering effort to "zero" (ability to use the
small finger for steering, like in the 60's, 70's, and early 80's).  Sheriff XXXXXX, please be aware that each/every dynamic force
results in a permanent and accumulative worsening of an injury.

To avoid permanent physical injuries to your deputies and a rash of workmen's compensation claims, it would behoove your office
and XXXXXXX County to investigate this issue, make your deputies aware of this issue, and ask the vehicle manufacturers to
reduce the steering efforts.

This is the physical mechanical process that has been determined to be the process responsible for physically induced
musculoskeletal injures. As you read this letter, this mechanical process is being studied by the European Union, and our
Congress is also preparing funding for a confirmation study.

Additional information about the damaging dynamic forces can be found at our web site at: www.miketomich.com.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.

                                                             Yours truly,

                                                              Mike Tomich
